Technology

I realized that it is not possible to share Word docs and pdf files through Blogger. But, a potential solution for this is to use google docs as a way to share those types of documents, and post the link through here. We can even use google docs as our word processor so we can make changes on the document itself without sending back and forth. Then it truly is collaborative. We can comment about our thoughts on the blog while at the same time making changes to the actual document. Seems like a pretty nifty solution.

I agree. And for our paper, we should include how this limitation could affect our students. We must take into account our students' varied levels of technological literacy.

But even here I see opportunity. As teachers, we could ask students to submit their essays in sections. For example, a student could post just the introduction of an essay. This action would reinforce the purpose of an introduction because a student would view the paragraph as a separate entity that should be able to stand on its own. Is there a clear thesis? Does intro grab the reader's attention? From there, the student could submit the first main idea (be it one paragraph or multiple paragraphs)and analyze this portion for focus, development and so on.

This focused type of reflection and possible revision is good practice for developing writers.
